The Friends of Winkies Castle (FOWC) was formed in July 2003 to preserve and enhance the work of the late Jack Anderson.

Jack had saved the building from demolition in the 1960's and created there a small Folk Museum filled with his own collection of photographs and objects. When he died in 2001 he bequeathed the Museum and all its contents, nearly 6000 in all, to Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council on the understanding that it should be preserved for future generations. Through its Museums Curator, Alan Pearce, the council encouraged the formation of FOWC and has greatly supported our efforts to carry out Jack's wishes.

Much has been achieved! The building has been completely renovated and whilst preserving its essential charecter, now meets the demands of modern health and safety regulations. The objects have been cleaned and catalogued and many are on display.

A team of Volunteer Stewards has been formed and thanks to their selfless efforts, Winkies Castle is once more open to visitors.
